The
natural choice for adventurers, seafood lovers, golfers, environmentalists,
photographers, and friends! The
southwestern coast of the Bay of Fundy offers the world’s finest seafood, North America’s best whale-watching and memorable
experiences of rich and diverse geography, history, culture, and
recreation. Digby is proud of its legacy
of natural history, seascapes, sunsets and warm smiles.
The
phenomenal Bay of Fundy sustains the world’s
highest tides. Its crushing salt water
feeds an extraordinary ecosystem of plant and marine life amid rugged rocky
shores, expansive sandy beaches and marshlands.
Five species of whales are commonly sighted in the Bay
of Fundy, as well as porpoise, seals, dolphins, and an abundance
of seabirds, waterfowl and shorebirds.
The Digby Area landscape offers breathtaking views of the Annapolis Basin, Digby Gut, and Saint Mary’s Bay
with unparalleled sunsets and fresh air.
There are plenty of retreat-like venues for hiking, beachcombing,
photography, birding, kayaking, canoeing, and simply relaxing. |

Journey through the centuries of
Mi’Kmaq, Acadien, Loyalist and Black Loyalist settlements in the fishing
villages and museums found throughout the Digby Area. Stroll along the boardwalk in the historic
Town of Digby,
founded in 1783 by Loyalist Admiral Digby, and then walk on to fisherman’s
wharf. You will see the colourful and
famous Digby Scallop Fleet, and perhaps even “yarn” with the local fishermen. Visit some of the shops on Water Street and see rare scallop pearl
jewelery, designed and crafted by local masters.
Just a few minutes from the Town of Digby is the captivating village of Bear River,
with its steep rolling hills and charming village of shops on stilts. Visit local vineyards and participate in
wine-tasting in this beautiful hamlet. Well drained glacial soil and steeply
sloping rows, warmed by the inland flow of the sea, creates an ideal vineyard
climate. While in Bear River, learn
about the Mi’Kmaq First Nation people and their 4,000 year history in Bear River at the Bear River First Nation Heritage and
Cultural Centre. Bear River is also home
to many of Canada’s
finest artists and craftspeople who open their studios to visitors. A great selection of Digby Area artwork is on
exhibit and for sale at Flight of Fancy in Bear River.
Digby Neck, Long Island and Brier Island
are favourite destinations for nature lovers.
These communities offer you pristine encounters with our natural
environment and our maritime history.
Joshua Slocum, the first person to circumnavigate the globe alone by
sea, made this his home and is remembered in Westport.
Among wildflowers and nature conservancies, the Balancing Rock Trail and
a myriad of lighthouses, the salt air and the views will amaze. Some of the most exciting whale-watching
expeditions in North America operate from
Digby Neck.
Digby is
also home to one
of Canada's
finest golf courses. The challenging and
scenic 18 hole championship layout was designed by Stanley Thompson,
winds it way through tall pine trees and over a meandering brook which widens
into ponds on holes 2 and 16. There are
two other pleasant golf courses, Annapolis
and Clare, both within a short drive of Digby.
After
a round of golf, pamper yourself in the luxurious AVEDA spa at the Digby Pines
Golf Resort and Spa and then dine in the simple elegance that is Digby. After all, no visit to Digby would be
complete without a taste of the famous Digby Scallops, fresh haddock or Bay of Fundy lobster!
